Robert Plutchik created a wheel of emotions in 1980 which he used to illustrate different emotions and how they are related. He suggested that there are eight primary bipolar emotions: joy versus sadness, anger versus fear, trust versus disgust, and surprise versus anticipation. His circumplex model makes connections between the idea of an emotion circle and a color wheel; like colors, primary emotions can be expressed at different intensities and can mix with one another to form different emotions.

This is a fascinating representation to me. It’s simplicity is beautiful. It’s complexity is bizarre. At different times I am in awe of the wheel, in others all I have is interest.

This is just beautifully bizarre and bizarrely beautiful.
